About me

My name is Tomas and I am from Kosice in east Slovakia. I was born in 1990.
I have many hoobies and one of theese are electronics and the amateur radio. I am firstly licenced since november 2024 as OM8HOP with my wife OM8HIP, but some practical experience I had before on CB and PMR bands and at electronics club. I am interested on this hobby since I had 10 years old.

QRV

Nowadays I am mostly active on VHF and HF bands and I am ready to recieve/transmit on DMR and C4FM network too.

At home QTH (KN08PQ) I am QRV mostly all day theese frequencies:

Primarily

  • 145,575 MHz
  • 145,650 MHz (TX 145,050 MHz) – OM0OVT

Scanning and monitoring

  • Analogue
    • 145,200 MHz – 145,800 MHz | FM
    • 2m + 70 cm repeaters | FM
      • OM0OVT
      • OM0ODK
      • OM0ODM
      • OM0OUP
      • HG9RVA
      • HG9RVB
      • HG9RUA
  • Digital
    • OM0ODK | DMR TG 231, 2311, 231401, 231405, 231112
    • OM0ODM | C4FM

Modes

I am interested to work in any modes. Besides SSB I like many other modes, mainly like CW, RTTY, PSK, OLIVIA, SSTV, HELL.
The FT4 and FT8 modes is interesting for me only because using that with PSK reporter I can obtain information of wave propagation very quickly and with good reference. When I am working on theese modes I am also travelling on maps and I am interested to study conditions and some history of worked locations.

HAM equipment

My primary radios are the Yaesu FT-710 and Yaeasu FT-991A. Now I am using Diamond WD330s HF antenna for the bad montage conditions at my home QTH and Diamond X50 vertical for VHF and UHF. Besides theese I have an Anytone AT-578UV PRO with J-pole antenna and AT-878UV handheld for ready to make connections on DMR network.
The older Yaesu FT-60 analogue handheld I am using mostly only for scanning, or when we are at the nature with my wife and kids.

Software

Software I am using are Ham radio deluxe as common software and logbook and for contesting I have been installed TR4W, Minos and N1MM. I am also using some utility softaware for CW decoding like CW decoder logic or Morse expert on android. For digital modes like FT4 or FT8 I am using JTDX and for time sync I have the software called Network Time. I also like the software called GridTracker which listens to traffic from JTDX and displays it on a map. SSTV I like to use MMSSTV and for RTTY and other digital modes I am commonly using HRD DM780.

Other hardware

For better audio experience I am using 2 pieces of Yaesu MLS-200 speakres.
I made a homebrew dual microphone for FT-710 and FT-991A with switch and PTT button with option to connect the PTT pedal under the table for free hands. Also I had a 3D printed small Double paddle CW keyer.
Raspberry Pi5 now only serves me HAMCLOCK and I am using it for quick searches and to display maps.
I also bought some pieces of 10″ monitors for use it with raspberry PI and Yaesu FT-710 as external display.
